Confinement Lady or Confinement Center?

Seriously I really need advise on what is the biggest difference between staying at confinement center over having a persoanl confinement lady at home?

Alright, the most I heard is confinement center is not supportive over breastfeeding. True?I guess that's the biggest worry for moms who is planning to breastfeed the baby. Secondly, it's not as comfortable as staying at home, right? But as for my case, it will be a problem to get a CL to stay with us as the house already so crowded... I'm staying with in-laws, BIL and coming soon another Indon maid. Well, I guess it is a luxury to have a persoanl CL at home but it seems abit impossible and I'm reluctant to stay in confinement center due to rumours like "you won't get 100% nutritious soup or diluted red dates drinks as the center caters for so many mothers" or "mother will be advised to leave baby at nursery for care"... and so on. Is this true? Any mummies stay in confinement center before??? Mind to share with me your experience?

My only concern is to breastfeed (in a relax place)... that's my highest priority. In fact, I don't really hope to stay at home with in-laws as too many "advises" from previous experience that caused me had terrible stress and thus failure in breastfeeding!!! Initially I plan to get a CL in my hometown and spend 1 month there but there will be some business going on in my family and therefore the plan is cancelled. I really feel miserable over this and don't intend to get the CL to stay in my in-law place... looks like confinement center will be my next alternative.

Or u can get a local CL n she goes over to ur ILs plc early morning, n leave late evening/nite. But that means u'll hv to take care of bb urself during nite time. This CL issue quite 'thau thia' hor. Hope something can be arranged n u'll hv a wonderful confinement period.

Eventhough I'd always have wars with my mom during my confinement, I prefer to stay at home...Bf could be an issue, I'd already experienced it when I stayed in a private hospital longer than supposed...Adam already on formula, no more breastmilk...whenever i wanna bf him, he will scream...:p

my fren's wife went to confinement ctr and it was terrible.
turn into deaf yr abt breastfeeding at home, yes u need encouragement and support from frens or anybody who supports breastfeeding. do it in the room and dont buy formula, or else u will be tempted !

never experienced confinement center, but i think having confinement at own home is much more better than having outside.

hope you can find something you feel comfortable :)

I guess more or less the same when you don't know them... just as how you'd feel having a stranger stay with you in your house for a month, you'd feel awkward and not 100% comfortable staying at a Confinement Centre.. no best of both worlds here, I guess. My SIL had a CL who diluted the red date soup, too... Either one, good luck in getting a good one ;)

HI Sharine - I can sense your determination to want to breastfeed No. 2 this time. I remember your comment your blog :)

As many Mums have said here, you need to be *very* determined if you want to breastfeed, regardless of what your MIL, CL or even your own mother says!

I had to "fight" the CL, Mum and elder sister giving me "advice", I have no milk, CL secretly giving Lucas formula at night (to make him sleep longer) etc.

It was tough and yes, I agree with Jess below that there's no best of both worlds. Home is still best as you're comfortable, En En is secure and all your stuff is there.

I successfully breastfed Lucas until he was 10 months (he stopped himself) but it was a struggle in 1st month. With support from other breastfeeding Mums, I made it.

You can too! Just aim for small targets i.e. 1 month, 3 months when you reach the 6th month, it's a breeze :)

Keep in touch ok? And let me know if you have any questions...I keep meaning to post my breastfeeding experiences to help other Mums. Have been busy with work etc. Will do so soon!

Take care

Confinement lady is the best way and as mentioned you will feel more comfortable at your own home.

We had a horrifying confinement centre experience at Peiling confinement centre operated by Daveleen Sdn Bhd. The nannies cant be trusted. Our baby is instructed by doctor to be spoon fed only and has been trained since birth at hospital.
The confinement centre said no problem but the nanny secretly bottle feed and used pacifier during night time. After few days, spoon feeding does not work anymore. Baby is distress and kept crying.
We knew because we caught them red-handed. Cant trust anyone with your baby especially nanny.

To Anonymous: Yup! I visited 1 confinement center before I popped and I don't really like staying there. In fact, I got my mum to get a confinement lady at my hometown and went back straight from the hospital. Luckily I made a better choice even the CL is not the perfect one, I managed to breastfeed my DS exclusively even it was really a terrible experience at the beginning. My CL is not against breastfeeding though...
