This is a backdated post.
Daddy and mummy went to Bali Hai at Gurney Drive with friends (daddy's colleagues) for a feast on seafood! Mummy never post anything on food before and this is the first time because it could be a memorable experience. As you can see from the board of the restaurant, it's written "If it swims, we have it!" You got to believe them.
Look at the crab... very yummylicious but we couldn't finish it with 11 persons and have to take away.
This is the local big prawn (large shrimp) and they are really giant in size. All the fish, crabs, lobsters,... in Bali Hai are alive in the chill water when you make your order. Mostly are imported species from US, Norway, Australia, Taiwan, and so on...
This is the shrimp cook with "tang hun" in hokkien (vermicelli?)
this is the sea cucumber cooked with mushrooms, brocolli and sea scallop in slices. A very authentic Chinese style dish.
The sweet and mildly fragant meat of the King's crab. It is very huge and enough to be prepared and cooked in two different styles from one crab.
Hot and spicy version of Alaska King Crab! Too hot till we couldn't taste the meat... what a put off!
This is the up close look of Alaska King Crab. We need to place order to have this dish... it's cost almost 700 bucks for one crab... depends on the size & weight!
Not in the list is the steam grouper, more than RM30 per 100g. Everyone was very satisfy with the meal and this could be the first or maybe the last time mummy having such a splendid meal. It cost, well... as expected:
Total for RM1672.66

I just watched a documentary on how the fishermen brave heavy storms and big waves to catch the king crab in Alaska. The king crab season is very short, probably about 1-2 weeks only.
They can earn lots of money with the king crab, but some people wuold lose their lives during the catching season.
taty: sabah got lots of seafood, isn't it?
chinnee & jazzmint: I also pengsan but they taste great! I think I won't have much chance to have this type of splurge on luxury food in many years to come...
lotus: it is true... I watched the documentary before and becoz it's a high risj job for catching those king crab, the price of it is mountain high among other sea living creatures... the most expensive crab is from Japan. My DH is eyeing for Tasmania crab... he's a crab lover...
pengsan..the bill could gv 3 person return ticket via a/asia..everyone can wait.....hehehe..in that case...1.6 k could feed alot of seafood lovers in KK..hehehe..my parents fishpond has 5 types of living animals in it but i dunno what..hehehe..ok..the 5 types are small prawns for the fishes to eat, talapia, err...lupa...the one that goes very expensive type..toobad i dont like to eat fresh water seafood...hehehe
the bill was a little huge there. seafood is expensive i guess.
bzbee: oh yes... in sabah you won't have problem to get fresh catch of the day since some of the seafood here are imported from sabah too! how i wish to pay a visit to Sabah one day...
anna: yes... it definitely is for the imported one!
Yummy...:P~~~
My my!!!!
No wonder I could never smell that place!!! LOL
Even if that cost just 10% of the bill my hubby will not take me there... he said never to eat along Gurney Drive!
Wow.. the bill has a vy big amt. But if u divide among 11 ppl, then it's abt RM150 per person. Well, for the seafood that u ordered, I guess that's not so outrageous after all, eh? U terrible lah... tempt a crab lover like me with all these huge crabs... *lau nua liao* hehehe
